What should I expect about the teaching and evaluation methodologies at the School of Sciences?

A typical curricular unit at the School of Sciences is organized in theoretical, theoretical-practical and practical classes. In the theoretical classes, a paradigm of teaching based on the student participation, rather than a model based only on the transmission of knowledge is adopted, using multimedia support. Theoretical-practical classes are based on group assignments, discussion of results from the lab classes and presentations of assignments and lab results. We use Blackboard learning e-platform to share teaching materials, notices and other exchanges between students and professors. Theoretical-practicals can also involve autonomous or teacher-oriented resolution of problems and their correction and analysis and resolution of case studies. The evaluation method is usually defined by the professor of the curricular unit in the first theoretical lesson. Periodic evaluation is normally based on two written tests and continuous evaluation measures the student individual performance in theoretical-practical and practical classes, group and project reports, attendance and participation, among others.
