How to apply

Applications to Doctoral Programmes of the School of Sciences of the University of Minho are made online at the Acad​emic Portal. Candidates should provide the following documents in on​e of the foll​owing languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish, or French:

Detailed Curriculum Vitae;
Motivation letter;
Digital copy of transcript of records for your graduation degree and master, stating in detail all curricular units (subjects) completed and the respective workload / associated credits, grades obtained and final classification of the degree and master's degree (graduation).  In the case of a qualification obtained in a foreign higher education institution, the rating scale and the grade required for approval must be indicated;
University declaration attesting to its relative ranking in the group of graduates of the course (if this information is not included in the qualification certificate);
Digital copy of the English language proficiency certificate (except for citizens of Portuguese speaking countries), spoken and written, through recognized organizations, such as TOEFL, or Cambridge University;
Two reference letters;
Digital ​​copy of your passport (or valid ID document);
Other documents relevant for the application (optional).

If you wish to apply for more than one doctoral programme, you must complete the procedure for each programme separately, with a non-refundable application fee of 40 euros per course which can be paid by credit card.

The documents submitted in the application is a responsibility of the candidate, who must submit the originals of documents whenever requested. In case of doubt about the elements relevant to the application or their authenticity, UMinho may request additional information from the applicant or their confirmation. ​

The possession of foreign qualifications must be proven by means of a document authenticated by the official education authorities of the country of origin and recognized by a Portuguese diplomatic or consular authority, either by means of a Hague Convention Apostille or through a declaration issued by NARIC.

Results display - until July 29, 2026
Enrollment - August 4-11, 2026

2nd Phase: September 3-10, 2026
Results display - until September 17, 2026
Enrollment  - September 21-23, 2026

2nd Edition, starts in the 2nd semester

Single Phase: December 2-9, 2026
Results display - until December 18, 2026
Enrollment - January 5-8, 2027
