Doctoral Program in Medicinal and Food Plant Resources

This Program has as main objectives:
i) to offer advanced training (C3) of excellence, promoting the development of original and competitive scientific research in fundamental and/or applied aspects in the area of medicinal and food plants (namely non-conventional food - PANCs), which include biomedicine and health, quality control, conservation and management of biodiversity, using the most apropriate methodologies;
ii) preparation for an academic or business career, at national and international level. This program should train Doctorates with technical-scientific skills, with the dual ability to carry out high quality research autonomously, in higher education and/or R&D institutions, and to actively intervene in innovation, renewal and problem solving in different socio-economic sectors, such as agriculture, pharmaceutical industry, cosmetics and food, biotechnology and environment, allowing the creation of a true Bioeconomy.

Description


This Program has as main objectives:

Key learning outcomes


This Doctoral Program will provide:
1. To obtain advanced training in the scientific areas identified in the Study Plan;
2. Design and carry out original research that produces relevant knowledge, with publication of the results in scientific journals;
3. Understand and solve problems and/or needs of the economic, industrial and social sectors, related to medicinal and food plants;
4. Critically analyze the results obtained, finding solutions, making decisions, and creating new ideas and technical approaches;
5. Clearly communicate their knowledge, reasoning and/or conclusions to both the scientific community and society in general;
6. To contribute a knowledge-based society, in the academic and/or professional context, allowing the existence of a true bioeconomy, and being promoters of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Formal requirements


Admission of candidates to the course:
a) holders of a master's degree (or legally equivalent qualification) in the areas of Biological and Health Sciences, Biochemistry, Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agro-Food Sciences, Bioeconomics, as well as other master's degrees with a technical-scientific nature related to these areas;
b) holders of a foreign higher academic degree, in the areas indicated in the previous paragraph, corresponding to a 2nd cycle of studies organized in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process;
c) holders of a foreign higher academic degree, in the areas indicated in subparagraph a) of this article, which is recognized as meeting the objectives of the master's degree by the Scientific Council of the School of Sciences of the University of Minho (CC-ECUM);
d) holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the CC-ECUM.
