Doctorate in Biology

The Ph.D course in Biology aims to provide advanced training for excellence in any area of Biology (e.g. Microbiology, Animal Biology, Plant Biology, human biology) and related sub-areas (e.g. Physiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Ecology, Biotechnology), either: i) in a fundamental perspective through knowledge of the structure, function and regulation of biological processes, or knowledge of the processes underlying the interaction of living organisms with each other and with its biotope/ecosystem; or ii) in an applied perspective, through the use of living organisms or derivatives thereof for the development of new products/processes leading to applications of interest for the society/environment. It is intended with this doctoral course that the scientific and technical skills acquired constitute a solid basis for the pursuit of different profiles in different domains (e.g., industry, agriculture, health, higher education).
